For the second consecutive year BP has cited Benchmark Mineral Intelligence’s lithium price in its annual Statistical Review of World Energy 2019 report.
The highly anticipated and respected report is used for reference by other energy companies, media organisations and also state governments.
In last year’s report BP acknowledged that its review needed to adapt to the changing needs of their customers and as a result cited Benchmark Minerals’ data.
“BP’s recognition of lithium and the central role it plays in the energy storage revolution is further evidence that sentiment is growing far beyond the active supply chain”, Simon Moores, Managin Director of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence explained.
“Benchmark Minerals sets the industry’s most trusted and accurate lithium prices using the most specific and rigorous process. This is recognised both inside and outside of the industry and our lithium price assessments are crucial tools for contracting, investing and planning for a low carbon future.”
The 68th edition of the report references Benchmark Minerals’ Lithium Carbonate, FOB, South America price data, which is one Benchmark Minerals’ most widely quoted prices.
In a speech introducing the BP’s latest report, Spencer Dale, BP Group’s Chief Economist, said “the statistical review provides a history of sorts, it is a very specific, near-term, history: documenting the developments in the global energy system in the previous year. In that context, the only victors are the power of comprehensive, objective data.”
He added “The data write the story. That is the role the stats review has been playing for the past 68 years. More importantly, looking ahead, I hope that the understanding and insight provided by future statistical reviews will continue to inform judgements and decisions as society navigates its path to a low carbon energy system.”
