Glencore has joined a new cobalt alliance which is focused on improving responsible mining practices and formalising the artisanal mining sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
As the world’s biggest producer of cobalt, Glencore has joined Fairphone, Signify, The Impact Facility and Huayou Cobalt—China’s largest cobalt refiner—in supporting the Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA). The Responsible Cobalt Initiative (RCI), Sono Motors and Lifesaver will also join the FCA alongside Glencore.
The alliance looks to end forced and child labour, formalise artisanal and small-scale mine (ASM) sites, reduce other harmful practices and alleviate poverty . . .
